 FAQs

What should the customer know about pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Pricing depends on the project’s scope, including its size, complexity, and specific requirements which typically requires more detailed analysis and documentation. We charge by the hour for smaller projects or offer fixed project fees for larger, complex projects.

What is the typical process for working with a new customer?

Site visit to understand the client’s goals and specific ask and project requirement and address any preliminary questions of the client.  Gather essential information about the project site to inform the design. Finalize structural design, performing necessary calculations and develop drawings. Support the client and contractors during construction to ensure the design is executed correctly.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, including homeowners, architects, construction companies, government agencies.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Sean Engineering was hired to evaluate a wall and determine whether it was load-bearing or non-load bearing, in order for the owner to safely remove it. After inspecting the structural role of the wall, the owner was provided with the structural details. This would ensure that the load was properly transferred, allowing the wall to be removed without compromising the building’s integrity and bearing capacity. The whole process took only three days.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Verify that the engineer holds a valid professional engineering (PE) license in your state. Ask for examples of similar projects the engineer has completed.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

1) Are you looking to build new, renovate, or make specific structural changes?

2) Gather any relevant documents, like property surveys, soil reports, previous plans, or photos of the site

3) Consider how much you’re willing to spend and any deadlines for completion.

4) Think about whether you want regular updates and site visits from the engineer.
